Clyde Stanley’s Martial Arts has been a landmark in Minden for many years. What local folks may not realize is that Minden has become well known throughout the martial arts world.

The journey from a small club to the full time martial arts school that is now Clyde Stanley’s Martial Arts began almost 43 years ago; and what a journey it has been!

“I still don’t know what possessed me to walk into that karate dojo in 1972”, Clyde remembers. “I had heard of karate, but never thought much about it. In those days martial arts were strictly for adults. There were only a couple of teenagers in our school. It was only after the ‘Ninja Turtles’ and ‘Karate Kid’ movies that children’s classes came about. During that time, I spent my days working construction and attended school at night. I somehow managed to fit in 3 karate classes each week. In the first two months of training, I had lost over twenty pounds. Martial arts had become ‘my thing’ and my life was never going to be the same again.”

Clyde began his martial arts training in Isshinryu Karate. Over the years, he also expanded his martial arts education in San Soo Kung Fu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Catch Wrestling, Russian Sambo, boxing, & wrestling. In addition, he is the highest ranking instructor of ‘Half-Circle Jiu Jitsu’ in the world.

A few of Sensei Stanley’s achievements include being inducted into the Louisiana Black Belt Hall of Fame and the International Isshinryu Hall of Fame. He has also been featured in several magazines including Black Belt Magazine, Martial Arts Success, and MMA Worldwide.
